The Persian Calendar starts on the first day of Spring which I believe to be very fitting. It is when the new life is coming alive after the cold winter, blossoms are amongst us, tulips coming up and the days becoming a little longer-a promise that warm weather and more sunshine will soon be warming our bodies after a long winter.
As I stated yesterday, I have many wonderful memories of Nowruz, the family, the fun and the delicious food.
For Nowruz generally a Haft-sin table is set up to symbolize: I did set up this table with my youngest daughter last year which was fun.
The Haft Sīn
The centerpiece of Nowruz observances is the Haft Sīn, a table setting of with seven symbolic foods all starting with the letter ‘S’. These often include wheat, barley or lentil sprouts (sabzeh), a wheat pudding (samanu), dried oleaster berries (senjed), garlic (sīr), apples (sīb), sumac berries (somaq) and vinegar (serkeh). The table also includes other items like candles, mirrors, colored eggs and even goldfish bowls with live fish
There is a fairly blurry video that talks about Nowruz and its history. Interesting to watch for sure.
Happy New Year and Happy Celebrations!
Thank you Lovely Nia
