I think we are our own worst critics.
At lunch today we brought up our looks, and different things we didn’t like about ourselves. Things that maybe we only notice about ourselves. For example the girl I work with in the office feels like her ears are big, so she is always trying to hide her ears with her hair. I never noticed her ears being any larger than anyone elses, but she points it out, when she has her hair pulled back, so then of course, I look-I still see no difference.
Then the topic of Gil Zamora came up. He is a forensic artist who worked for the FBI. He has women sit behind a curtain and describe themselves to him, and he will draw a sketch of how they described themselves. He then takes another person who had spoken to the same woman just casually and asks this other person to describe the same lady he just drew a sketch of. A moving three-minute video about how differently we see ourselves compared to how others see us. This video is very telling about how most of us view ourselves.
