In February I was invited to join six ladies and three guides for an event raising money for Casting for Recovery. Casting for Recovery was founded on the principles that the natural world is a healing force and that cancer survivors deserve one weekend — free of charge and free of the stresses from medical treatment, home, or workplace — to experience something new and challenging while enjoying beautiful surroundings within an intimate, safe, and nurturing structure.
The event was a one day of fishing with five guides learning a new technique of Czech Nymphing. (more on this later). All that was required was a donation to CFR our fly fishing gear and happy faces. How could it get better than this?
When we stopped for lunch on Saturday the two Ladies from the Southern Area CFR chapter announced to our group that we had raised enough money to send one lady to the retreat. The retreat provides a lady with all gear necessary for fly fishing, meals, instruction and a day on the river. It affords the opportunity for a lady to be surrounded in a safe environment where doctors and nurses are available along with volunteers who know all about fly fishing.
It was moving to know that all of us ladies and the five generous guides were able to get together and fly fish and raise money for this wonderful organization.
Truly a blessed experience for me!!
